This short book is part of a series of short books written by Hilaire Belloc (of Cautionary Tales For Children fame)circa 1910-11 about well known battles involving British troops.Many other books in this series are also available from Amazon as free Kindle downloads.
This particular book offers a very concise, but very incisive, analysis of this 1709 battle between the British (under the Duke of Marlborough), the Prussians (under Prince Eugene) and the Dutch on one side facing the army of King Louis XIV (the Sun King) of France. Belloc covers the political implications of the battle, the battle itself, and an interesting description of the terrain as it appeared before WW1 was fought over the same ground.
The only major criticism I have of this download is that there are a number of maps, illustrations and other graphics which are refered to in the text, and which must have obviously been in the original print edition, but which do not appear in this download. But since this is a free download, one can overlook that that omission.
One interesting oversight is that a number of publisher's advertisements for other new books (at least, new as of 1910-11 when this was first published) in the publisher's inventory in 1910-11 have been included at the end of this book. Some of these old books seemed interesting so I checked them for availability on the Kindle site. Several were available as free downloads. Others might be interested in checking these adverts for material which might interest them.

A very interesting strategy of a battle that changed history. I had never heard of this battle until I read the book.
